TouchOfMiles's Massage Interview
How do you like clients to feel about the experience when they leave?
I love when my clients leave our sessions feeling heard and relaxed. I love having conversation with my clients to understand their day to day, stresses, thoughts, etc. When I know more about my clients, I am able to focus my attention on their body work based on what is needed the most.
Is extensive training necessary for a Masseur in order to be successful?
Yes, as well as on-going training. I am always trying to advance the techniques I was taught. When working with my regular clients, I like to explore their bodies to understand what work is needed - this allows me to research more techniques that are specialized to my client.
How often do you travel? Do you prefer to travel or are you more of a homebody?
I travel often - I love to explore! While I livein Philadelphia, I travel to NYC & DC monthly to visit my regular clients as well as see my friends and family there. My ultimate favorite place I have visited is Paris!
What distinguishes you from all the other Masseurs?
All masseurs have their specialty, so it is truly up to our clients to determine the best masseur. However I can say my focus is to connect with my clients through conversation and on-going sessions. Connecting deeper allows me to provide relief with techniques specialized to each client.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to be a Masseur?
Learn the basics, keep learning and researching, listen to your clients needs - don't just make a routine and go through the motions.
Do you consider yourself a successful Masseur?
I do - I am not sure what the measurement is for this however most of my clients have been with me for many years. It brings me joy to see my clients smile with relief after our sessions - and when I get to see the same clients with that joy each session, I see that as success.
Some people say that being a Masseur is addictive. Would you miss your Masseur days ?
Absolutely! I would miss the connection I have with my clients the most.
Do you remember your first client ? Tell us something about that first day when you decided to be a Masseur!
I do! They are still with me... 6 years later!
Why did you become a Masseur?
When I first began working out, I noticed how many people forgot about stretching, proper posture, the art of massage, etc - myself included (back then!). So I wanted to create a way to help others in this capacity. My massages include stretching, body adjustments and different massage techniques.
What are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to read - mostly current events, camping, rugby, rainy day cuddles, and all snacks!
How long have you been a Masseur and how long do think you'd like to continue?
I just hit my 5 year milestone and it flew by! I think I will be continuing for many, many years to come.
How would you like someone that contacts you for a massage to feel when they leave?
I would love for them to leave feeling relaxed (of course) and at ease. Find a new masseur can be a difficult process. I try to make sure all my clients feel comfortable, understood and at ease. It makes it much easier for them to relax and enjoy their massage.
Tell us a little about yourself, if you were to pick something what would you like your clients to absolutely know about you?
My profile says it all - and for the rest of it, you'll get to know that through our sessions together.
